Organizing your Gift Wrap Supplies

We consistently find that our clients and friends struggle with finding ways to organize gift bags and wrapping paper. This year, let’s tackle it before we go buy more wrapping paper and gift bags! What can happen in the chaos of a heavy gift giving season is it all ends up in a jumbled mess thrown in a closet, smashed in a drawer, or scattered in multiple places around the house. We have some ideas for you that might make the Holiday Season and wrapping all those Christmas presents less stressful.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Text a few friends or neighbors for a little gift wrap swap with all of your leftovers from the years prior. Your discard could be someone else’s treasure!Add a hand written tag or grab a sprig of fresh greenery to dress up your gifts. Looking for thoughtful ways to personalize gifts this year? Artifact Uprising shared some beautiful ways to incorporate photos into your gift giving and wrapping.

This year - incorporate some reusable gift wrap bags to cut back on all the paper/wrap waste. Or you could hunt for a few nice baskets to contain gifts. Opt for a simple kraft paper to use for gifts all year around.

WHERE TO STORE WRAPPING SUPPLIES

Maximize the vertical space on the back of any closet door by using a hanging (or Elfa attached) storage solution. These feature space for tall rolls of wrapping paper, smaller gift bags, ribbons, and other supplies. Pick the closet in the room you are likely to do your wrapping for easy access.

A storage solution that rolls with the punches, literally bring a cart like these wherever it’s needed. They are one of our most recommended item because they can be useful for so many different needs and seasons of life. Have everything you need on hand, in accessible and visible carts.

You may already have a tall container or laundry basket like these, stick them in a guest room closet or your garage. Stand alone storage solutions like these can hold gift wrap for all year around, not just Christmas.

If all your closets are full, using horizontal space with under the bed storage container is a great way to save space. Limit yourself to one bin or box, so you don’t over buy too many rolls of paper or other supplies. These keep your items neat and contained and out of sight until they are needed.

We are interested in your solutions as well. What has worked well for you? Happy holiday gifting season! Remember, it doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated to be meaningful and pretty.
